When thinking of the health of an individual, the health of the family needs to be looked at also. The family is an important aspect of a person’s life. If the family members are blood related, then a lot of things can be looked at, for instance genetic carriers for certain diseases. Looking at the family history of health can tell the practitioner a lot. A lot of the health behaviors of a person can be traced back to what they learned in childhood and these can be hard to change (Ostovarfar, J., Kaveh, M., Ghahramani, L., Karimi, M., Asadollah, A., Zare, R., 2021) They will be able to determine the likelihood of certain diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. They can then tailor the health education to battle those diseases. With the stages of health promotion, it will be hard for a patient to enter the action stage when they are not ready. If the family around there is not going to support the patient, they will be less likely to get to the action stage or they will enter that stage but not last in there especially if the family around there is not going to help and be a positive influence. When the nurse is trying to help the patient, they need to look at the family structure, the risk factors, the environment, and their support system. When the assessment of all the factors around the patient is done the nurse can tailor and give the patient the skills to improve their health. The nurse can also include the patient’s family to help. It is hard to change a patient’s environment, but things can be added, skills can be taught to help manage their health.
